The water cycle

The water cycle, also known as the hydrological cycle, is a natural process that involves the circulation of water on Earth. This cycle is essential for maintaining life on the planet as it allows the distribution and renewal of water in different forms and places.

How does the water cycle work?

The water cycle consists of different steps, which are continuously repeated. Let’s know each one of them:

1. Evaporation

The first step of the water cycle is evaporation. In this process, the water of the oceans, rivers, lakes and other bodies of water is heated by the sun and turns into water vapor, which rises into the atmosphere.

2. Condensation

In the atmosphere, water vapor cools and becomes liquid water again. This process is called condensation and occurs when steam is with cold air masses.

3. Precipitation

The next step is precipitation, in which condensed water forms clouds and, when conditions are favorable, rainfall, snow, hail or drizzle. This water returns to the earth’s surface.

4. SERECIAL FLOW

After precipitation, part of the water that falls on the earth’s surface flowers through the surface, forming rivers, streams and streams. This process is known as runoff.

5. Infiltration

Another part of the water that falls on the earth’s surface is absorbed by the soil, in a process called infiltration. This water penetrates the soil and can be stored in aquifers, which are underground water reservoirs.

6. Perspiration

Plants also participate in the water cycle through perspiration. They absorb water from the soil through the roots and release it into the atmosphere through the leaves in the form of water vapor.

7. Evapotranspiration

Evapotranspiration is the sum of evaporation of water from the earth’s surface and the perspiration of the plants. This process contributes to the return of water to the atmosphere.
